Established in London in 1991 Allan McPhail Photography provides creative location and studio photography for national and international clients and brands.

Born of Scottish parents Allan was brought up in the industrial North of England. Allan studied photography as part of an art course from the early age of fourteen. Challenged by the school curriculum, Allan turned to the camera as his means of expression.

For a project on the local environment Allan documented in glorious colour the food chain process from “cow” to “steak pie” at a local abattoir. These powerful images so impressed the Head of Art they were exhibited along the staff corridor. Members of the teaching staff were shocked by the graphic images. Allan was backed by his Head of Art who stated … “This is an honest piece of photojournalism that should be displayed”….Allan realised for the first time that he could use a camera to evoke reactions.

Allan continued to study photography, art and design achieving a Higher National Diploma in 1985, before moving to London to pursue his career in photography.
